Celebrating Women’s History Month

As it's Women's History Month we wanted to focus on the women who made, and continue to make,  Medicine Hat a place we're proud to call home. Inside City Hall there is a lounge and gallery named after Helen Beny Gibson. Have you ever wondered who she was and why there would be a space dedicated to her in City Hall? She was a trailblazer! In 1957, at the invitation of Mayor Harry Veiner she ran for aldermanic office and was elected for seven consecutive terms until 1971 when she first retired. She served on many civic committees and represented the city throughout Canada, the United States and overseas. In 1973 she was invested into the Order of Canada. She was a tireless volunteer in a wide variety of organizations on the local, provincial and national level. We are inspired by her dedication to city governance and the time she gave and passion she felt for our community. Are there women who inspire you?
