State of Public Health Emergency Update

A state of public health emergency was declared on November 24, 2020. New mandatory measures for businesses and services to stop the spike in cases are in effect as of November 27th.

NEW Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS)

CERS will reimburse eligible businesses up to 65% of rent expenses, depending on how much revenue lost as a result of COVID-19. If you’ve been forced to close your doors by a public health order, you could qualify for a 25% top-up, bringing your subsidy to 90%.
Unlike CECRA, it does not require your landlord’s involvement.

How much am I eligible for?
It depends on how much revenue lost and whether you own or rent the building. You can use CRA’s CERS calculator to find out how much you qualify for. You can apply for this subsidy retroactively to September 24, 2020. Find out:

The Small & Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant (SMERG)

SMERG offers financial assistance to Alberta businesses, cooperatives and non-profit organizations with fewer than 500 employees that faced restrictions or closures from public health orders, and experienced a revenue loss of at least 40% due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The revenue loss threshold lowered to 40% from the existing 50% revenue loss requirement. This 40% threshold will be available to impacted businesses retroactive to March, 2020.

Job creators that meet the program’s eligibility criteria can apply for 15% of pre-COVID-19 monthly revenue, up to $5,000.

Phase 1:
Any company that meets the 40% threshold will be able to apply for the grant starting November 24, 2020.

Phase 2:
Companies that wish to apply for a second round of funding will be able to do so within the coming weeks. Applications will be open until March 31, 2021. Full program details, eligibility criteria, and how to apply are outlined HERE.

Canadian Emergency Business Account (CEBA)

As of October 26, 2020, eligible businesses currently operating through a personal bank account are able to apply for CEBA.
Deadline change: applicants now have until December 31, 2020, to apply for CEBA.
