State of Public Health Emergency & Resources

State of Public Health Emergency Update

A state of public health emergency was declared on November 24, 2020. New mandatory measures for businesses and services to stop the spike in cases are in effect as of November 27th.

The Chamber issued its response on November 24th here. Make sure you are aware of the supports and resources available.

NEW Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS)

CERS will reimburse eligible businesses up to 65% of rent expenses, depending on how much revenue lost as a result of COVID-19. If you’ve been forced to close your doors by a public health order, you could qualify for a 25% top-up, bringing your subsidy to 90%.
Unlike CECRA, it does not require your landlord’s involvement.

How much am I eligible for?
It depends on how much revenue lost and whether you own or rent the building. You can use CRA’s CERS calculator to find out how much you qualify for. You can apply for this subsidy retroactively to September 24, 2020. Find out:

Phase 1:
Any company that meets the 40% threshold will be able to apply for the grant starting November 24, 2020.

Phase 2:
