The Alberta Chambers of Commerce has developed a dedicated Wildfire Resources page. This invaluable resource is available to you and anyone who have been impacted by the wildfire situation.

Citizenship week

Citizenship Week is an annual opportunity to celebrate the rights and responsibilities shared by all Canadian citizens. It is the ideal opportunity to share how you and your organizations have supported newcomers on their path to citizenship, and offers a chance for them to tell their citizenship stories. Sharing this inspiring content will encourage others to celebrate this important week!

It is the responsibility of Canada’s citizens to understand the history of the Indigenous Peoples that are living on this land and have been long before immigrants came from all around the world.

As part of citizenship week, it is important to acknowledge that the history of Canada began far earlier than the European settlement.

We encourage you to promote how newcomers can:

How can you participate?

Get social! Share inspiring citizenship stories! Celebrate what it means to be Canadian and underline how newcomers have contributed to Canada by becoming active citizens in their communities.
When sharing on social media, remember to use #MyCitizenship and #ImmigrationMatters and tag

Alberta and Canada to match Canadian Red Cross Donations

The Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta will each match every dollar donated to the Canadian Red Cross 2023 Alberta Fires Appeal. This means that every $1 donated will become $3 to support those affected by the wildfires. Donated funds will allow the Canadian Red Cross to support community organizations to support impacted people and communities as they begin the long process of recovery for increasing events.
Those wishing to make a financial donation to the 2023 Alberta Fires Appeal can do so online at redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.

Community engagement for City’s Environmental Framework begins

The City of Medicine Hat invites residents to learn about the City’s work to establish an Environmental Framework that will formally ingrain environmental considerations into City decision-making.

Residents may engage online by submitting questions on the Environmental Framework project page on the City’s Shape Your City portal at shapeyourcity.medicinehat.ca. or attend the in-person community engagement session on Tuesday, May 30 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kin Social Room, 2055 21 Avenue SE. The framework will be layered with Council’s strategic priorities and the myMH Municipal Development Plan to create specific targets and actions that the City can control. It will be a living document that can adapt to changes in our community and in the regulatory realm. The framework is expected to be complete by the end of 2023.
