Electricity rebates to start arriving on July bills

All utility customers currently connected to the electricity system that have consumed electricity within the past calendar year, up to a maximum of 250 megawatt hours per year, are automatically eligible for the rebates and will receive the rebate as a credit to their electricity bills from the utility provider. The rebate will appear as an individual line item on the electricity bill as the “GOA Utility Commodity Rebate.” Consumers will receive $50 each month for three consecutive months, with most rebates starting to show on July’s electricity bills. Consumers who believe they meet the eligibility criteria but have not received the rebates by the end of July should contact the Utility Consumer Advocate at 310-4822 or UCAhelps@gov.ab.ca for assistance. Extension of the fuel tax relief for Albertans

Albertans will continue to save the 13-cent provincial fuel tax on every litre of gasoline or diesel they purchase for at least another three months. The government committed to evaluating the program quarterly and reinstating it in stages only if the average price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil fell below $90 per barrel. Executive Director of the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce, Lisa Kowalchuk, gave an interesting and insightful presentation on the State of Business in our city and region.
"After two difficult years of the impacts of the pandemic, we are pleased to see a return of tourism, investment and cultural events in the region".
Lisa said that our municipal government leaders have adopted their strategic plans, and they were working to start conversations on how to move forward together on the priorities, including working with regional partners to develop a regional economic development strategy that addresses business retention, expansion, and attraction, tourism, workforce development, infrastructure, policy/process reform and developing an economic subsystem that encourages entrepreneurship.

Vital Conversations

Vital Conversations

We were able to participate in many roles for this year's Vital Conversations which was hosted by the Community Foundation of South East Alberta.

Vital Conversation is a facilitated discussion with community members to learn more about the social and economic trends impacting local quality of life. The conversations are often used as a starting point to identify local priorities and mobilize a community into action.  Vital Conversations can serve as a springboard to strengthen local relationships, develop new partnerships and determine funding priorities.
