Plan Ahead for the Construction Season
To help inform residents of upcoming, in-progress and completed construction projects, city staff have relaunched the interactive project map ahead of the 2022 construction season. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) map includes major construction projects taking place in parks, with utilities and on roadways over the next several months. Residents can use the map to see important infrastructure upgrades and learn more about each one. Each project on the map includes a description, an expected start and end date, and information about the project cost. Staff will continue to update the Major Projects map as projects progress throughout the year.
The interactive map can be found on the City’s website from www.medicinehat.ca/cityprojects and is complimented by the Construction and Closures map that may include additional closures related to other construction or events occurring in the community.
Supporting Women’s Economic Recovery
Between July and October 2021, the Premier’s Council on Charities and Civil Society engaged with civil society organizations and experts, women with lived experience and Indigenous Elders on how to help women in Alberta recover from the impacts of COVID-19. That engagement informed the council’s report on Supporting Women’s Economic Recovery, which identifies specific challenges facing women under such themes as gender-based violence, mental health issues and economic security. The report also provides advice on how the Government of Alberta can support civil society organizations in addressing these challenges. Alberta’s government will work with partners in civil society to assess the report in full and develop an action plan based on the recommendations.
EMS 10-Point Plan
AHS EMS continues to address ongoing system pressures and create capacity within the system, working on the initiatives first outlined in the EMS 10-Point Plan. This work is focused on managing high volumes of EMS calls, freeing ambulances for urgent care needs and ensuring our EMS workforce is robust and well supported. Work is also underway on the overarching Provincial Service Plan, which will guide the next five years of EMS operations. EMS is engaging with their people, as well as the public and other partners, to understand current experiences and perceptions of EMS. This will then guide the identification of areas for potential improvement, now and over the coming years. This engagement launched in mid-March and, since that time, EMS has already heard from thousands of Albertans, including patients and families, elected officials and AHS staff. Updates are available on the EMS Together4Health page and anyone is invited to sign up and take part.
